“It’s either the guitar or me!”

I was reading a post on an internet acoustic guitar forum not too far from here by a guitar player who had been given an ultimatum by his partner to choose between her and the his guitars. The purpose of his post was to bid farewell to the community since he had decided to sell his guitars. He was immediately accosted by a number of replies exhorting him not to be so stupid and commenting on what kind of woman would give this kind of ultimatum. He was advised that he would come to regret his decision. I did sympathise with the general thrust of the arguments put forward and, of course, empathised deeply with the original poster. His partner did indeed appear to be a savage mistress.

On the other hand, I have no means of knowing for sure that: (1) he is anything approaching a competent player; (2) his guitars are any good, and; (3) she is not an heiress with a gazillion-million dollars, does not have an apartment in the south of France with a big yacht tied up nearby.

Taking all of this into account, I refrained from posting any advice of my own.
