HI Dave. I read your thread on Kjaerhaus forum re GAC. Its great to hear the results. Nice arranging & nice recording. Love your guitar playing, too. I'm having a bit of a dilemna re mix / master plug ins, but for the money, I can't seem to find anything noticeably better than Gold series + MP1-Pro mstr limiter. Since I'm running SX3 with 6 pre fader VST slots, would you consider the GAC as useful as separate EQ, Comp & Peak Limiter plug ins ? I'd appreciate your opinion after hearing your work. Regards Mark Davies Reply: Hi Mark,
Thanks for dropping by!
The Gold Series, as you say, is exceptional value. The don't master my own work, but I often use the GAC-1 in the way you describe - however, I use the GPP-1 for a little "mastering compression" to finish the mix off. I always mix to quite low levels (peaking at -6dB maximum) to leave headroom for the mastering engineer.
But please look at Voxengo plugins, If you haven't already. Their Soniformer is a wonderful tool (in the opinion of many) and I would go to it immendiately if I were doing my own mastering on a budget. I do use it all the time on my mix bus for slight multi-band compression and a bit of mid/side stereo width adjustment. The Voxengo EQ's are equally execellent. On balance, I have to say, I use more Voxengo these days, but I still use the GAC-1 sometimes and the GPP-1 often.
Let me know what you decide.
I'm glad you like the songs!
Cheers! Dave
